7 of the Most Common Make-Up Mistakes Young Girls Make

Applying make-up is an art, and many women never master it until they get well into adulthood. For those of us who've been doing it for years, it can be funny to look at the common make-up mistakes that young girls make, sometimes even into their 20s. But none of us is immune to a little make-up slip-up every now and then; so even if you've been using make-up for decades, pay close attention to these all-too-common mistakes.

Being too shiny: We all like to be a little bit shimmery and glittery sometimes, but it's best to keep it simple. If you're going to use sparkling lip gloss, for instance, avoid getting too glowy with your other features. If you're going to use a shimmering finishing powder on your cheeks, use a simple dash of it and keep everything else natural. Otherwise, you'll end up looking wet or sweaty, which we can all agree is not a good look.

Powdering up: A dusting of fine powder is great for enhancing your natural complexion and giving that smooth, non-shiny look. But applying too much powder can quickly begin to work against you. Any time powder is easily visible on your face, you've put on too much. Remember, just use a light dusting. You don't want to look like you're hiding something.

Matching make-up to clothing: If you're dressing up in fancy clothing, keep your make-up simple. A common make-up mistake is assuming that just because you're dressed up, you have to get "dressy" with your make-up. In fact, the opposite is true. The more dressed-up you get, the more dressed-down you should be in your face and skin. Even worse is the mistake of matching make-up color to clothing color. This just makes you look weirdly monotonous.

Emphasizing everything: When applying make-up, there should be one, and only one, feature that you try to highlight. If you're going to bring out your lips, keep your eye make-up simple. If you're going to apply heavy eye shadow, use nothing but transparent lip gloss. If you try to highlight both, you'll end up highlighting neither-so make your choice.

Too tan: Stay away from bronzers that make you look an unnatural shade of golden orange. If you're going to darken your complexion with make-up, choose colors that look natural on you, and don't overdo them. Remember, beauty is all about enhancing what you've got, not turning yourself into something unrecognizable.

Too much red: Delicate red lipstick can be the perfect tool to enhance the fullness of your lips, but avoid cheap lipsticks that bleed. Keep things orderly with a thin liner border around your mouth, and don't apply lipstick directly. Instead, use a soft brush, starting from the center of your mouth and brushing outward.

Under-maintenance: If you have a lot of experience using make-up, then I don't need to tell you that it requires regular maintenance. You can't just put it on in the morning and expect it to stay perfect all day. Any time you're wearing make-up, be sure to check yourself around once an hour. But don't overdo it-you don't want to seem vain.
